tinymap is built on the simple idea that you should be able to share a map without giving up your personal data. This page describes what we do and do not collect, in plain English.

What we collect

  • Map content you create — title, description, pin labels, notes, the creator name you choose, and the latitude/longitude of each pin. This is what makes the map work.
  • If you sign in with Google — your email address and display name only. We use this to keep your maps available on any device where you sign in.
  • An anonymous view counter — when someone opens a shared map, we add one to a counter. We do not store who viewed it, their IP, or any identifying information.
  • Aggregate analytics — page-level events such as "map created" or "link copied", processed by PostHog in the EU. Automatic input capture is disabled. We do not track individual users.

What we do not collect

  • No third-party advertising cookies or pixels.
  • No selling, renting, or sharing of your data with brokers.
  • No location tracking beyond what you explicitly add as a pin.
  • No collection of contacts, photos, or files from your device.

Third parties we rely on

  • Google Maps — renders the map tiles and provides geocoding. Subject to Google's own privacy policy.
  • Google Sign-In — used only if you choose to sign in. We receive your email and name; nothing else.
  • Supabase — hosts the database (Singapore region) where your maps are stored.
  • Vercel — hosts the web application.
  • PostHog — anonymous analytics, hosted in the EU.
  • OpenAI — we send the text you type (title, description, pin labels, notes) to OpenAI's moderation API to block hate speech and abuse. The text is processed and discarded; OpenAI does not train on it per their API terms.

Cookies

We use the minimum cookies needed for the site to work:

  • Map ownership token — a small encrypted cookie set when you create a map, so we know you're the owner and can show you the Edit button. Lasts up to 1 year.
  • Auth session — only if you sign in with Google.

We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Your rights

  • Delete a map at any time — visit My tinymaps, hover a map, and click the trash icon. The map and its pins are removed immediately.
  • Delete your account — email us (see Contact below) and we will permanently delete your account and all maps you created while signed in.
  • Export your data — email us and we will send you a JSON file of everything we have on you.

Children

tinymap is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has signed in or submitted content, please email us and we will remove the account.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top.
